Sharknado 2 Given the Greenlight by Syfy

You gotta strike when the lightning is hot and the sharks are still hurling through the air. Yes, Syfy, inevitably, have greenlit Sharknado 2, on the heels of their latest uber-campy disaster film becoming a social media sensation last week. The follow-up will be set in New York and again produced by The Asylum.

Syfy have launched a Twitter contest to give the sequel a subtitle. Fans will be able to tweet their subtitle to @SyfyMovies using #Sharknado. The winner’s submission will become the official subtitle for Sharknado 2.

What's Next? Where Syfy Can Go After Sharknado

Said Thomas Vitale, Executive Vice President, Programming and Original Movies, Syfy, “Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm – on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun. We’ll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn’t want our fans to worry they wouldn’t get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year.”
