Comic-Con: Dexter Cast and Crew Say Goodbye

Dexter came to Hall H at Comic-Con today for one final panel. The series is in its final season and to celebrate, the show brought an impressive line up of panelists to the convention. They even brought some of them back from the dead. Executive producers Sara Colleton, Scott Buck, Manny Coto, and Clyde Phillips appeared alongside actors Aimee Garcia, Desmond Harrington, David Zayas, Yvonne Strahovski, Lauren Velez, Erik King, Julie Benz, Jennifer Carpenter, and Michael C. Hall. Whew.

No one divulged any spoilers for the remainder of season 8, but Hall mentioned that we'll continue to see Dexter's beginnings played out with Dr. Vogel. He stated, “Dr. Vogel really reframes the entire origin story for Dexter.” It's made him reexamine his relationship with his internalized father. In addition to that, we'll see Deb continue struggle. Carpenter would like to see her die. “ I wanted her and want her to die. As an actor it's because I love her.” She wants her to have peace. Time will tell.

The panel was really about remembering where they've been and saying good-bye. Each panelst expressed gratitude for the fans for making the show such a success. King said, “I'm blown away by the fact that I was only on the show for two years and people still come up to me.” He said he's felt like he was still part of the series the last six years. He was wearing a "Surprise, motherf***er" t-shirt for the occasion.

Many of them recalled when Dexter first came to Comic-Con and how it was in much smaller room. Julie Benz said it's just been amazing tos see the progression, and a teary-eyed Carpenter said, “The most authentic thing about this show is our relationship with you. It can't be a wrap until we're all here together, and it's a wrap with you all now.” She wasn't the only one crying.

One bit of news did come from the panel: the season 8 Blu-ray/DVD set will hit shelves on November 5th. The complete series set will also be out that day, and it will come in a boxed set that looks like Dexter's trophy case and will include bonus material as well as an art book. Another special Blu-ray set exclusive to Amazon.com features the discs coming out of the top of an anonymous victim's head.
