Comic-Con: What's Really Under the Dome?

Under the Dome made its debut at San Diego Comic-Con on Sunday, offering fans an advance screening of tomorrow's episode "Blue on Blue." Without spoiling anything, the episode mainly focused on a surprise visit from Chester Mill's loved ones on the other side of the dome, as the townspeople inside braced for a potentially fatal threat.

Following the screening was a Q&A with stars Dean Norris (James "Big Jim" Rennie), Mike Vogel (Dale "Barbie" Barbara), Rachelle Lefevre (Julia Shumway) and executive producers Brian K. Vaughan and Neal Baer.

One of the first questions was to Lefevre, who was asked whether or not Julia and Barbie will eventually get together. "They have a long way to go and a lot to talk about," she said, but obviously there's a chemistry there that can't be denied, and we'll likely see that continue moving forward.

When Norris was asked whether his character Big Jim shared his son Junior's psychotic tendencies, the actor quipped, "His mother's side, not me... We learn a lot about Junior, and his deceased mother comes into play a little bit. But yeah, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

Then, of course, there's that perplexing stockpiling of propane. While Baer couldn't talk about that directly, he did mention that all character storylines will be wrapped up by season's end. Additionally, "some mysterious women" will be popping up later this season to stir the pot.

In terms of the dome itself, however, that mystery is still at large. Is it actually a dome, or a sphere? How deep does it go? "Well, we saw junior go into those cement tunnels, so it's obviously pretty deep," Vaughan said. But Baer added that in episode seven, we'll learn just how deep it goes.

What about Jeff Fahey's character Sheriff Howard "Duke" Perkins? Might we see him again in some form or another at some point? Replied Norris, "We don't know all the powers of the dome yet, do we?" Intriguing... Vaughan added that "No one is safe on this show, not even the great Jeff Fahey." He then teased that not even the actors on the panel were safe. "Sorry guys," he said.

Under the Dome airs new episodes on Mondays 10/9c on CBS.
