Comic-Con: Mortal Kombat: Legacy Season 2 and Season 3 Info

Cast members Casper Van Dien (Johnny Cage), Brian Tee (Liu Kang), Ian Anthony Dale (Scorpion), Samantha Jo (Kitana), and MK creator Ed Boon appeared on the Mortal Kombat: Legacy panel at San Diego Comic-Con Thursday, alongside director Kevin Tancharoen, producer Lance Sloane and Machinima Exec VP of Network Programming Aaron DeBevoise, to discuss the upcoming second season of the successful web series.

"Fatalities" was the word of the day, as just about everyone on the panel hammered the point home that Season 2 would be more amped up, brutal and include - yes - fatalities. All the actors were enthusiastic about having more rehearsal time for the fight scenes this time around, which they insisted would be faster, harder and better than the first season. Fans can also expect one linear storyline this time out, where they'll see the characters fighting in the tournament.

New characters appearing will be Ermac, Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Kenshi. Tancharoen noted that they couldn't get Jeri Ryan back as Sonya Blade due to her busy schedule but hope to include her in Season 3. Others that won't be seen will be Goro - he said they wrote a script for him but couldn't include it due to budget constraints. Kabal, while not joining the fray this year, was announced for Season 3, which hasn't been officially announced but certainly is sounding likely.

They played a slick trailer which showed the characters being brought together for the tournament, but what got the crowd going was the extended clip that followed. [Those wishing to avoid spoilers may want to skip to the next paragraph]. The clip began with Johnny Cage fighting Mileena, who winds up pinning him to a tree before Kitana interrupts and the sisters proceed to have a knock-down, drag out battle. It ends with a spectacular death-by-fan as Kitana chops off Mileena's head right at the scar.

The new season will premiere on Machinima this fall, with the panelists saying that they know the date but don't want to announce it just yet. The closest they got was assuring everyone that we'd see it in September.

But for Season 2 it all came back to Dale's answer as to what fans should expect: "I can't stress this enough: the fatalities."
