Some good news for fans of Guillermo del Toro's aliens vs robots epic: Pacific Rim was #1 internationally over the weekend.
The news comes via Deadline, which claims the film grossed $35.3 million with 4.7 million admissions from 9,610 screens in 50 territories, $500K higher than forecast. As the site notes, overseas success is crucial; Pacific Rim debuted in third place at the US box office and has struggled since. As of last weekend, its domestic cume sat at $68.2 million, which is pretty rough for a movie that cost almost $200 million to make.
Pacific Rim is yet to open in China, Spain, Japan, and Brazil, so fans: cross your fingers that its international success continues.
