Comic-Con: Things Get Supernatural in Hall H

Supernatural went out with a bang in the Season 8 finale, as countless fallen angels descended from the sky. Obviously, that's going to have a major impact on our lovable brother duo Sam and Dean as Season 9 premieres later this fall.

Returning to San Diego Comic-Con on Sunday, Supernatural held yet another packed Hall H panel, including stars Jared Padalecki (Sam), Jensen Ackles (Dean), Misha Collins (Castiel), Mark Sheppard (Crowley), as well as showrunner Jeremy Carver and writer-director-exec Robert Singer.

But before introducing the panelists, fans screened a brief recap of Season 8, as well as an exclusive sneak peek clip of Sam and Dean dragging the ever elusive Crowley down with them into the bunker, where Crowley is now locked up (although likely not for long).

Remember the Titans

Kicking off the panel, Carver began by addressing the much talked about fallen angel situation, which he said will play a huge part in Season 9. "A world of fallen angels is pretty much a free-for-all," he said. "We've got lots of angels out there with lots of different agendas... I think it's lending itself to some really wonderful character moments."

As for Sam and Dean's relationship moving forward? "Their love for each other is stronger than ever," Carver said. However, after the events of the Season 8 finale, there will be some fallout between the boys towards the beginning of next season.

Said Padalecki, "We did choose each other and keep fighting the fight together... In this free-for-all world where we have the king of hell living in our dungeon and fallen angels walking around, we're going to need each other now more than ever... Sam always tries to fight the good fight. Sam's starting to accept the fact that his life will never be normal, and he's growing comfortable with that."

Added Ackles, "Dean has been through quite a lot in the last 173 episodes, and I think what keeps him motivated is his sense of duty to fight the good fight. It's his duty to his brother, his family, it's what he signed on to do... I think that when he got back from Purgatory last season, there was a real sense of clarity for him. That's why he was there [at the end], to fight that fight with his brother -- and pie."

A Little Slice of Kevin

Castiel, meanwhile, is of course now human. During the panel, Collins talked a bit about what that means for Cas. "It's a big shift for Castiel," he said," and there's a shift in the dynamic there for how he can be utilized by the brothers. As a character arc, I think it's going to be an immensely rich terrain to explore, being human... experiencing what it's like to eat as well as what happens after you eat." Interjected Padalecki, "There's a great bathroom scene." Collins confirmed, "Good bathroom-related stuff for Cas."

And what about Crowley? In Season 8, we started to see a bit of his humanity come into play. Might that continue moving forward? "I think what's happened to Crowley at the end of Season 8 has had a profound effect on him," Sheppard said of his character. "We'll see more of that explored in season 9."

Singer also said that fans should expect to see a lot more of the Men of Letters and their bunker in Season 9. As Singer mentioned, it's the first permanent set they've had on the show. He added that the bunker will kind of be a home sweet home for Dean. For Sam, however, it's more of a workplace, but they'll both learn to take comfort in it in their own unique ways.

And the biggest surprise of the Supernatural panel? Felicia Day will indeed be coming back in Season 9 to reprise her role as Charlie! Making the announcement was the actress herself, who popped up on stage to thunderous roars from the crowd.

Felicia Day in Supernatural.

Once seated, Day said, "I’m so blessed to be working with these amazing men." In regards to the popularity of her character, Day added, "I think that Charlie is a woman who happens to be a geek but that's not all she is -- she's not defined by that."

Supernatural returns to The CW on Tuesday, October 15 at 9pm ET/PT.
