Accessory Maker PDP Suffers 'Mass Layoffs,' May Shutter AGE eSports Team

Performance Designed Products (PDP), producers of the popular Afterglow line of controllers and licensed accessories for Battlefield 4, Disney Infinity, and others, conducted "massive" layoffs this week. First details of the restructuring emerged from a post to the Shoryuken.com forums, which claimed the company had fired "up to 30" staff members from various departments and plans to shutter its competitive fighting game team, AfterGlow Elite (AGE), just days after the EVO championship in Las Vegas.

The company has released a statement confirming the layoffs, stating the move was part of a larger departmental restructuring. While a company representative couldn't provide more insight into the exact number of employees let go, it did confirm that Team AGE will also be affected.

"Performance Designed Products (PDP), has restructured several departments to maximize its product strategy. Unfortunately, because of this, the company had to consolidate several departments during restructuring, including changes forthcoming to Team AGE. We are grateful to those impacted and wish them well in the future."

PDP is known primarily for its lines of licensed gaming and smartphone accessories for Battlefield 4, Call of Duty, NERF, Energizer, DC Comics, Marvel, and others, as well as its AfterGlow and Rock Candy ranges. Last year, the company made its first foray into eSports with the formation of AGE, which most recently competed in the EVO fighting game championships in Las Vegas.
