At Marvel, Spider-Man's villains got their own Secret Six-esque book, AvX got revisited, and Deadpool took up a mission to kill all versions of himself.

DC COMICS

Action Comics #22

AC_Cv22_2p3kzmvi9s_Written by Scott Lobdell | Art by Tyler Kirkham

"Seeing how he’s writing the main Superman series, I was interested to see what approach Scott Lobdell would take to with Action Comics, which recently has been known for telling stories at different times in Superman’s career. The result is that he brings it up to speed with the present and connects it to the plot he’s been telling in Superman, which unfortunately isn’t his best writing. There’s really not much difference in tone and story between the two titles now. They both even have way too many thought balloons." -Joshua

Batman '66 #1

BATMAN '66 #1 CoverLRWritten by Jeff Parker | Art by Jonathan Case

"Well, all those accusations that DC didn't know how to have fun anymore just went right out the window. While the case could be made that the majority of their print line is a dark and gritty place, this digital-first series heads in the other direction so hard and fast it'll make your head spin. Batman '66 is nothing short of brilliant, a slick ride that uses the digital medium to near perfection. Even if you aren't a fan of the classic TV show, you'll have a good time here. It's a blast from start to finish." -Ben

Batman Incorporated #12

Batman_Incorporated_12_FullWritten by Grant Morrison | Art by Chris Burnham

"After taking an issue off, Grant Morrison returns to his massive Batman epic in Batman Incorporated #12, the penultimate chapter of the series. The weight of this thing has been lifted and it feels like the story is limping along, but this is still a solid comic book from start to finish. There's some genuinely great moments in here, even if it's getting harder and harder to care about the overarching storyline." -Ben

Batwing #22

Batwing_22-651x1024Written by Justin Gray & Jimmy Palmiotti | Art by Eduardo Pansica

"If you've been following our reviews of Batwing, you know that writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray got off to a rocky start. The previous Batwing, David Zavimbe, left some pretty big shoes to fill, but we're happy to report that the new kid on the block, Luke Fox, has finally managed to fill them. With Batwing #22, we're finally getting a feel on this new Batwing and what makes him unique. With the Fox family in the Marabunta's crosshair, Luke has to decide between his desire to protect his family and his loyalty to Batman." -Melissa

Detective Comics #22

Detective-Comics_22_FullWritten by John Layman | Art by Jason Fabok

"In Detective Comics #22, series writer John Layman introduces a new baddie (or two) and he's everything we could have asked for in a Bat-villain. While Wrath isn't an entirely new face -- the character has existed since 1984 -- it is his first canonical appearance in the New 52. So far, this anti-Batman figure looks to be the kind of bad we can sink our teeth into. With a shady billionaire do-gooder, E.D. Caldwell, infringing on Bruce Wayne's territory just as Wrath launches a war on the Gotham PD, Batman's going to have his work cut out for him." -Melissa

Dial H #14

Dial-H_14-666x1024Written by China Mieville | Art by Alberto Ponticelli

"The worst thing that Dial H #14 has going for it is that it has to follow on the heels of issue #13. That issue was far sweeter and more emotional than you'd expect from such a bizarre comic. But that's always been the appeal of Dial H -- beneath the rampant weirdness is a cast of broken characters you can't help but love." -Jesse

Earth 2 #14

Earth-2_14_Full-665x1024Written by James Robinson | Art by Nicola Scott

"There’s a moment in this issue where Green Lantern says, 'This is war, Flash. War! Remember that.' and it actually made me laugh, but not in a good way. War has high stakes, tragedy, and sociopolitical ramifications. You don’t just say 'it’s war' like The Office’s Michael Scott declaring bankruptcy by shouting it out loud and then going back to his desk. Yes, there has been some buildup, but you’d be hard pressed to say what each main character has at stake. And yes, there’s a few lines about Green Lantern using his news outlet to sway public opinion, but it only serves to point out how severely underdeveloped the element of public perception has been in this series." -Joshua

Green Arrow #22

Green-Arrow_22_Full-665x1024Written by Jeff Lemire | Art by Andrea Sorrentino

"Oliver Queen's new status quo continues as he trots the globe searching for the meaning of his drug induced visions. This issue, more than previous ones, feels like a new beginning, the first adventure now that the character's new direction has been firmly established. There's a lot of cool stuff in these pages, plenty of action and a wee bit of melodrama to give the story some weight. This may not be the best book DC is putting out, but it is certainly one of the better ones by a wide margin." -Ben

Green Lantern #22

GL_Cv22_bf0vzovinw_Written by Robert Venditti | Art by Billy Tan

"After taking the time to set a solid foundation, writer Robert Venditti now gets to execute a story that’s more concerned with having fun than explaining things. He does a great job of balancing the humor and action with the more sinister elements that show being a space cop is a very dangerous job. If you liked the start to this new run on Green Lantern, then you’ll be pleased to hear that it’s only getting better." -Joshua

The Movement #3

The-Movement_3-665x1024Written by Gail Simone | Art by Freddie Williams II

"The Movement #3, written by Gail Simone, opens with something of a mission statement for the series as a whole. As Katharsis suffers a brutal beating at the hands of corrupt officers led by the villainous James Cannon, she muses, 'For you to live your quiet life, we have to all be afraid of the dark. Well, I got news for you, officer. The darkness is already here. And we are not afraid.' The words, narrated against a backdrop of brutal violence almost lovingly depicted by Freddie Williams II, resonate through the issue. Simone grapples with the idea of pushing personal and societal boundaries to the breaking point, as her populist heroes fight to reshape a world that has no place for them." -Melissa

Swamp Thing #22

Swamp-Thing_22_Full-665x1024Written by Charles Soule | Art by Kano

"If you think a story arc called 'The Whiskey Tree' sounds ridiculous then just wait until you actually read it. Charles Soule is one freaky writer and it only takes this issue to show you why he was chosen to write Swamp Thing. He does an excellent job getting you to understand the character and feel for him, and then he goes and puts him through one of the most hellish and twisted plots imaginable. Seriously, this is some messed up stuff. Makes you wonder what Soule is like after a little too much whiskey." -Jesse

Trinity of Sin: Pandora #1

Trinity-of-Sin_Pandora_1_Full-665x1024Written by Ray Fawkes | Art by Various

"Remember the woman in red who appeared in every #1 issue at the start of the New 52? We’ve learned tidbits about her since then, but now Pandora has her own series that ties together all of those elements and expounds on them greatly. Writer Ray Fawkes definitely gets a lot of credit for telling a story that spans all the way from 8000 B.C.E. to the present and making it such a smooth read, although he kicks off the story without first giving a compelling reason to root for Pandora." -Joshua

Trinity of Sin: The Phantom Stranger #10

Trinity-of-Sin_The-Phantom-Stranger_10-681x1024Written by J.M. DeMatteis | Art by Fernando Blanco

"Trinity of Sin: Phantom Stranger #10 offers one last chance for the Stranger to wrap up unfinished business before Trinity War kicks off. That process unfolds as Stranger is escorted to Heaven by his canine overseer and is given one last opportunity to reconnect with the souls of his late family. The issue is fairly sappy and predictable, but still a nice way to cap off the book's first major storyline." -Jesse
